Eileen Ruffing made a motion that the district should
finance the purchase of a laptop and portable
printer for use by the district
treasurer (since the old one, 6 years old, is no longer
functional)
The motion was seconded by Richard
Cooper, and passed by the membership.
9.
Gary McCutcheon brought packets of standardized audition
materials for District High School Honors
Band applicants. Discussion
followed:
* It was agreed that 2 students should continue to
be guaranteed from each school.
* It was agreed that percussion applicants should
have to audition on snare/timpani/mallets.
* Randy Lamb made a motion that the district should
accept the packet of materials for audition
use, and that John Packard can
“tweak” the list as necessary. The motion was seconded by
Randy Heidlebaugh, and passed by the
membership.
10. A
concern was brought up regarding the quality of pianos at
the H.S. S&E South Site. Discussion and
explanation followed that several of
the pianos had to be found at the last minute, thereby not
being of the best quality. The
concern will be relayed to Paul Jackson.
11. A
question was raised regarding the use of SmartMusic at Solo
& Ensemble AE. Discussion followed,
and it was relayed that at the trial
sites using SmartMusic, many problems have not yet been
worked out concerning the variables
in equipment (some students performed to a laptop
speaker, others had extensive
amplification devices) and practicality in the rooms (some
rooms
did not have adequate electric plugs
or extension cords.)
12.
Randy Lamb brought up the new application form for marching
band local events that will be used this
fall. The new form requires a
principal signature verifying school enrollment.
13.
Regarding 2009 District X JH S&E, because of the timing of
spring breaks for many of the district’s
schools, it was decided that we
should make use of the conflict date (4/18/09) for one of
the
sites, leaving the other site to use
the original date (4/4/09). Mark Maxwell will check with
site
chairs Keith Watson and Mike Schwall
to determine which site will use which date. Once the
dates/sites have been determined,
directors should contact the chairs should they need to use
a
different site than usual so that
the chairs can plan for the number of adjudicators needed.
14.
It was pointed out that 2009 District X HS Large Group
(3/13-14) will be the Saturday following OGT
week. OMEA will approve a director
who elects to go out of district for that reason (the other
date is the previous weekend.)
15.
Meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
